Branch spacing

Trees with main branches spaced apart are considered stronger (right photo) than trees with close spacing (lower photos with closeup) between main branches. Connective wood forms properly when branches are spaced apart. Weak connections result when a nearby branch prevents wood from developing an effective collar around the base of the branch.
